Membership

Membership is the lifeblood of any organization, and if you are a current or lifetime member of the WHA, we thank you for your support. The WHA is the nexus of the field of world history and counts on your membership to promote the field, support scholars, teachers, and students, run conferences and symposia, and act as a general resource and clearinghouse of information. Thank you for supporting the organization which supports the good that you do in turn.

Member Benefits

WHA members receive subscriptions to WHA publications the Journal of World History and the World History Bulletin. Members are also eligible for discounted registration fees at the annual WHA conference, as well as occasional discounts on prize-winning books and other promotions.

NEW!  2022 DEPARTMENT MEMBERSHIPS

To extend more scholars greater access to the intellectual life of the WHA, we are now offering departmental memberships.  There are several models listed below, which depend upon your specific institution.  All department members will receive these additional benefits: a further 20% off the membership registration for conferences, 30% off for students from your institution, discounted rates for all departmental membership prices.  In the US & Canada, the primary member will receive publications in paper.  For all other models & for secondary members on this model, publications will be accessible in digital format.

US & Canada Department Memberships – This first model is for institutions in the US & Canada that are defined as high schools, community colleges and historically Black colleges & universities.

Rates: 2 – 4 members $140 annually, 5-7 members $175 annually

US & Canada Department Memberships (university only) – This second model is for institutions in the US & Canada that are defined as 4 year universities and do not fit into the category above.

Rates: 2 – 4 members $160 annually, 5-7 members $195 annually

Overseas Department Memberships – This third model is for institutions overseas that are defined as secondary schools, technical schools & junior colleges.

Rates: 2 – 4 members $100 annually, 5-7 members $145 annually

Overseas Department Memberships (university only) – This fourth model is for institutions overseas that are defined as 4 year universities.

Rates: 2 – 4 members $130 annually, 5-7 members $170 annually

Membership Rates

WHA membership runs on a calendar year basis (1 January–31 December). Any memberships processed or received on or after 1 October are automatically processed or renewed for the following year. If you join or renew mid-year, back issues of both publications will be sent to you.

Full-Time Students

The membership rate for full-time students is $50 per year. In order to qualify you must be taking the full number of credits required by your institution to be considered a full-time student. Please send a valid student ID showing the current year. Membership may not be valid unless current ID is received.

Lifetime Membership

Lifetime memberships are available for $2,500, payable in one lump sum or in four annual installments of $625 each. Our lifetime members help to ensure the long-term success of the association and are recognized in the on-line list of lifetime members. Upgrade to a lifetime membership.

A note on the Journal of World History

All WHA members receive digital access to the Journal of World History.  Paper copies of the journal are available for an additional fee of $10 per year.
